This basic course provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to take upp sea kayaking as a safe and fun hobby. During the course you will among others learn forward paddling techniques, manouvering, capsize rescues of yourself and your fellow kayakers, navigation, winds and waves. During the course we will also make trips in the very beautiful Archipelago Sea, giving you an unique opportunity to experience the marine wildlife and environment of this area. The course is based on the International Sea Kayak Guide Association ISKGA Sea Kayaking Fundamental Level One Syllabus.
 The course is tailor-made for both persons who have not kayaked before, and for persons who have tried kayaking but who have not attended courses.
 
During the course we will practice at least the following:
 
ISKGA Sea kayaking fundamental Level One is predominately developing a novice to be understanding and proficient in the core Technical, Rescue, Expedition and Navigation Skills. The goal is to help the participant become an efficient paddler that is environmentally aware and able to be safe and understand and be able rescue when required.

Carrying the kayak
Securing the kayak (car roof rack and/or trailer)
Efficient forward paddling
Turning the kayak
Support braces
Pair rescues
Self rescues
Fundamentals of navigation (chart, map and compass)
Archipelago Sea Weather and Forecasts
Packing the Kayak, Basic Expedition skills
Environment, Wilderness and Nature Reserve Areas

This quick basic sea kayak safety and boat handling course is aimed for you, who want to get self-sufficient concerning important skills like basic pair rescues, self rescues, basic boat handling and navigation. This class or equivalent skills together with previous kayaking experience and navigation skills are considered as minimum criterion for renting sea kayaks without a guide. 

We concentrate on the following during the 3-4hrs class with focus on the parts that are central to train for your safety:

• One self rescue method (getting back into your kayak after a capsize)
• One pair rescue method (getting a capsized kayaker back into a dry kayak)
• Forward paddling
• Basic, proficient maneuvering strokes
• Basic support brace
• Wind, waves and hypothermia
• Navigation in the archipelago
• Kayak handling and repairs

All things mentioned above will never be covered during one Basic Safety course, instead we focus on those things that you need the most and that are central to the conditions that you need the skills for. If you want to train to become a proficient paddler for other than the easiest conditions, we ask you to consider our two days basic course and intermediate course.
