Kayaking in the Archipelago National Park

The National Park is a remarkable kayaking area — and also a protected landscape where routes, landings and camps must be chosen with care.

Protected does not mean simple

The Archipelago National Park is ideal for sea kayaking because the landscape is varied and the routes can be adapted to conditions. At the same time, landing and access can be restricted on some islands to protect nesting birds.

This is one reason Aavameri combines route planning, local knowledge and practical safety coaching for both guided and self-guided groups.

Aavameri does not only take you kayaking. Aavameri helps you understand the sea.

Questions guests ask

Useful answers before you book.

Do I need previous kayaking experience?

It depends on the product. Evening tours and many day tours are designed to be accessible to first-timers in suitable conditions. Multi-day self-guided expeditions require solid paddling, camping and judgement skills because you are responsible for your own route on the water.

How are routes chosen?

Aavameri does not force a fixed route through the archipelago. Wind, waves, visibility, temperature, group ability, ferry traffic, landing restrictions and safety margins decide the actual route.

What happens if the weather is difficult?

The route, starting point, distance or timing can be changed. In exposed conditions the safest and most beautiful option may be a more sheltered part of the archipelago, a skills session, or a postponed start.

What should I wear?

Dress for the water and the weather, not only for the air temperature. Aavameri provides the kayaking equipment listed for each product. Bring suitable outdoor layers, sun protection, water bottle and personal medication.

Can you help with transport from Turku?

For multi-day guided and self-guided experiences, transport arrangements from Turku are normally part of the planning. Day tours and courses may use Satava or another suitable launch place depending on the product.

Can we combine kayaking with cottages or sauna nights?

Yes, when availability and route logic allow it. For self-guided expeditions, Aavameri can help guests find cottages, sauna nights, guest harbours or indoor accommodation so that every night does not have to be wild camping.
